What is the IMDG Code

International legislation for dangerous goods

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code was developed as an international standard for the transportation of hazardous materials by sea. It addresses issues such as classification, packaging, labeling, container traffic, and stowage, with specific emphasis on the segregation of incompatible substances.

Since its adoption by the fourth assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1965, the IMDG Code has been updated biennially.
