What are MOCAs and what are the relevant regulations

Definition and main regulations

"Food Contact Materials" (FCM) refers to all materials and objects intended to come into contact with food, such as packaging, containers, kitchen utensils, or food processing machinery.

The European legislation governing food contact materials is Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004, which establishes the general requirements that such materials must meet and the specific measures containing detailed provisions for certain materials (plastics, ceramics, etc.).

Within the framework of current European regulations concerning food contact materials, our commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance extends far beyond mere production. We provide specialized consulting services in Food Contact Materials (FCM), guiding companies through every stage of the supply chain, from importation to distribution. Our goal is to ensure that all materials and objects intended to contact food are not only inert and safe but also manufactured according to good manufacturing practices, fully compliant with Regulations (EC) No. 1935/2004 and No. 2023/2006. With our support, companies can focus on the excellence of their products, assured of meeting all current regulations regarding food safety and quality.

The underlying principle of this regulation is that materials or objects intended to come into contact, directly or indirectly, with food must be sufficiently inert to exclude the transfer of substances to food in quantities that could endanger human health, cause an unacceptable change in the composition of food, or deteriorate their organoleptic characteristics. Therefore, all materials and objects must be produced in accordance with good manufacturing practices (GMP) and in compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006.

The two EU regulations cover the entire supply chain, involving not only production and processing but also distribution, including the import of the materials and objects in question.
