An Exposure Scenario (ES) is a set of permitted uses and operational conditions for a substance, either in its pure form or in a mixture, that must be adhered to by the user during a specific activity. These scenarios must be attached to Extended Safety Data Sheets (eSDS) or integrated into the SDS itself and subsequently provided to actors in the supply chain along with the substance.
In addition, the user of the substance must verify that their use is compliant (and safe) with what is indicated in the Exposure Scenario, considering their own operational conditions (scaling). Compliance with the Exposure Scenario is an integral part of the chemical risk assessment and the carcinogen/mutagen/reprotoxic risk assessment pursuant to CAD Directive 98/24/CE.
Our exposure scenario consultancy services provide companies with comprehensive support to ensure compliance with industry regulations. This includes a range of activities, such as:
- Assessing the correctness of the information contained in Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Verifying that the uses applied in the company are consistent with those described in the Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Verifying that the company's operations are in line with the received exposure scenarios (scaling)
- Providing technical support to communicate with suppliers in case of non-compliant uses and scenarios
- Developing exposure scenarios (CSR-ES) for DU and DU-CSR
- Providing support for scenario compliance verification through site inspections, checklists, scaling activities with models, or airborne substance measurements
- Identifying and analyzing all preventive and protective measures contained in the scenarios and integrating them with the chemical and carcinogen/mutagen/reprotoxic risk assessment (Directive CAD 98/24/CE and CMD 2004/37/CE)
- Defining an airborne substance testing strategy in accordance with specific technical standards to integrate the risk assessment pursuant to Directive CAD e CMD with the information resulting from the scenario compliance assessment
- Conducting environmental and personal sampling for exposure assessment as defined in the comprehensive strategy for evaluating the resulting data
- Revising chemical and carcinogen/mutagen/reprotoxic risk assessment documents by integrating the information resulting from the scenario compliance assessment and airborne substance sampling
