What is REACH Regulation and why it's applied in EUs markets?
23 Jun 2020In the early 2000s, the European Union started to work at a revolutionary legislation about chemistry. At the end of 2006, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, commonly known as REACH Regulation, was finally published.
Basically, in order to improve the protection of human health and the environment from chemicals risks, REACH establishes procedures for collecting, producing and assessing information on all the substances that enter the EU market. This information is not limited to toxicological and eco-toxicological fields, but also extends for example to the physical-chemical properties, chemical composition profile, identified uses and their related amounts of substance circulating in the EU. Authorities and the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) can thus assess whether and how the risks can be managed. Sometimes, this leads to special provisions for substances of concern, such as authorization and restrictions.
